Feature request (package templates)

I think it would be valuable to add a feature that allows the user to right-click a package and choose to "Prep Package" and a dialog box would pop up to allow the user to choose another package, and display the objects within the other package with ability to check/uncheck. Any thing checked would then get replicated in the existing package (e.g. variables, connection managers, annotations, control flow tasks, logging, etc.) This would be a quick way to prepare similar packages as a starting point.

That's an interesting idea. We'll consider it.

Until then, the following workaround may work. Add a dtsx file to the following directory. Then you should be able to right click on your project in Solution Explorer and choose Add... New Item... then pick that package. Then you'll immediately want to generate a new GUID for the package.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\DataTransformationProject\DataTransformationItems
