BIML Script and Case Sensitive

May 28, 2011 at 7:14 PM

Hi,

when I define TargetColumns inside transformations, case sensitive is ignored.
Is it a bug inside the BIDS Helper or something of the Biml standard?

Cheers,

I'm investigating this and should have an answer shortly.

Okay, tracked this down. This is functionality in the Biml compiler. Right now, the compiler is ignoring case when matching column names, as case sensitive matching was a source of user frustration. We have the capability to turn that back on, but it's not currently exposed as a user setting.

Can you describe the specifics of your scenario? I'm guessing you have two columns with the same name, but different casing. Is there a reason you can't give one of the columns a different name? (Just want to understand the scenario, so we fix it in the best way possible).

At the moment there is no specific scenario. I was wondering just when testing the BIDS helper for my blog.
I can understand the reasoning and think it can help to reduce the user frustation. It was first just a little bit unusual.
