Invoking SmartDiff from Visual Studio command line

Feb 3, 2012 at 9:49 AM

I'm trying to invoke BidsHelper SmartDiff from the command line by doing the following:-

Set the "command-line" checkbox in Add-in manager to allow the add-in to be called from the command-line.

use the following command to invoke smart diff:-

        devenv /command BIDSHelper.Connect.SmartDiffPlugin file.dtsx file2.dtsx

The Visual Studio IDE loads up but with the message:-

    Command "BIDSHelper.Connect.SmartDiffPlugin" is not available.

Does anyone know if I should be able to do this, and if so, how ?

Thanks in Advance

That won't work. Currently BIDS Helper only provides a GUI for Smart Diff, not a command line.

You might look at this an alternative:

Thanks for that, but I'm using Perforce... Not sure if it will work for that....

BIDS Helper is just running the XML through XSLT files then sending the resulting files to a diff viewer. If you want to download the source code and write your own EXE wrapper, feel free.
