Thanks for your reply. I have managed to get it working now. In IE9 I was setting the language to French (Switzerland) and this seems to work within Sharepoint 2013 fine (the French language pack is already installed). However, when setting the language column within the Tabular Translations Editor to the same language, none of the translated values were displayed. So I tried entering translations for French (France) and these seem to display okay within Excel Services.

One slight problem that I now have is that I cannot remove the French (Switzerland) values from within the Tabular Translations Editor. I can select the 'Remove Language' okay but when I then click the OK button in the dialog a error message dialog appears stating 'Collection was modified; enumeration may not execute . . .'. The French (Switzerland) column is the right-most one within the Tabular Translations Editor dialog. Also, I am using Visual Studio 2010. Let me know if you need more information/screenshots.

Hmm. I don't know exactly what is required off the top of my head. I'll have to check my notes.

What Sharepoint version?

Did you already install the Sharepoint language pack and change to that language in the user menu?

I have installed the tabular translations editor and can successfully created translated column names for my tabular model. When I deploy and subsequently browse the model using SSMS I can see the translated column names when I select the relevant language in the SSMS browser.

However, I cannot see the translated column names from with Sharepoint using IE9. I have set IE9 to French and see the Sharepoint pages translated into French but my Excel file that references the tabular model still displays the field list in the original language. Do I actually need to install a French language pack on my Windows 7 machine or should setting IE to French permit me to view the column names in French?

Too bad I didn’t get the answer I was hoping for ;).
I guess we will have to wait and see if translation will come to Taular models in the next SQL Server release.

Between the options you mention, option number two is exactly what I was looking for. So if you will develop something like this into BIDS Helper that would be something that I love to see.

Glad you're finding this feature useful.

Currently SSAS doesn't support getting translations from a database. And BIDS Helper doesn't either.

Given the SQL Server team has promised a release every 2-3 years, I'm hoping we'll start to see CTP (beta versions) of the next version of SQL Server in the next 6 months. I'm curious to know if they will choose to tackle translations for Tabular models. I'd kind of like to wait and see before investing any more in this feature in BIDS Helper.

If they don't, I'd be curious if people have a thought on which would be more helpful:

Be able to export Translations to an Excel spreadsheet which can be handed to a less skilled language expert for filling in the translations... then import the Excel sheet back into BIDS Helper.
Specify a certain SQL query result format (such as ObjectType (table, column, etc.), ObjectName, Language, CaptionTranslation, DisplayFolderTranslation (or something like this) then let the BIDS Helper user write such a SQL query to return that info to from their table structures.

Hi,

I have just installed BIDS Helper to get access to the translation part for a Tabular Model and it works pretty well.

But I have a question is it possible to import the metadata into Tabular Translation Editor so I don’t have to write them in manually for every language I create? I already have a DB with the correct definition for each table, column and measure that I like to import for the different languages.

BIDS Helper 1.6.3 didn't include an updated BimlEngine compared to 1.6.2. The only change was support for project connection managers and support for Visual Studio 2012.

So I don't think the Biml support in BIDS Helper has changed to help this scenario yet. Scott can hopefully post back here once that happens.

You mentioned that in the next release of the BimlEngine, enhanced/extended support of the Attunity Oracle connector would be available. Is this the one in BIDS Helper 1.6.3.0 ? Any details on this ?

Does version BIDS Helper 1.6.3.0 have tags which do the column metadata for the Attunity Oracle Connector for you?

Actions are not visible in Excel Services. Please do request this from Microsoft. Since they added the field list and field well into Excel Services 2013, I would hope actions are on the list to be implemented in the next version, but that's just a hope.

One thing I have experimented with is using the =HYPERLINK() function in Excel to link a cell in Excel Services to a URL. That might help simulate a URL action.

Hi,

The Tabular Actions Editor seems to provide great capabilities for use in Excel.
Can any of these be of use in Excel services? My understanding is that the UI in Excel on web in sharepoint 2013 only has a Quick Explore menu an no Show details as in the client application and therefore cannot reach what has been set up via Tabular Actions Editor?

Another good thing is that it won't cause an error in your VS2010 even if you leave it enabled. And even if you don't have BI projects installed

So if I understand correctly you are not doing any BI development in VS2010 - is that correct?

If so then you will need to wait for the next release of BIDS Helper (which we have just finished testing so it should be out shortly) to get VS2012 support and you will need to manually disable the addin in VS2010.

The BIDSHelper2012Setup(1.6.2.0).exe file will install BIDS Helper that currently targets the SQL 2012 BI projects in VS2010.

The next release will support the SQL 2012 projects in either VS 2010 or VS 2012, but if you have a situation like yours where you have both installed but don't have the BI project templates in both you would need to manually disable the addin for VS 2010.

I'm getting the below error when loading BIDS Helper 1.6.2 when Visual Studio 2010 starts up:

Problem loading BIDS Helper: Unable to load one or more of the requested types

Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information

My setup is:

VS 2010 Ultimate SP1
SSDT for VS 2010 (for sql projects)
SSDT for VS 2012 (for 2012 BI projects).
BIDS Helper 1.6.2 (using BIDSHelper2012Setup(1.6.2.0).exe)
I DON'T have SQL 2012 installed

Can someone help?

Appreciate it's done for SQL 2012 as against Visual Studio 2010 as the IDE, but it doesnt appear in Visual Studio 2012 IDE for the same SQL 2012 projects. Now that BI templates are included in VS 2012, I'm sure all developers would start using VS2012. Can you add BIDS Helper compatibility for this? Many thanks in anticipation of a quick release
