"upgrade" to 1.6.4 didn't; 1.6.3 still active

description

running 64bit windows 7 with bids helper 1.6.3 is VS2005 installed and working properly. attempted to upgrade to version 1.6.4 and nothing in the install process seemed untypical. opening VS2005, i now see TWO features tabs, and TWO version tabs, in Tools;Options;BIDSHelper. the ver 1.6.3 is still active and the 1.6.4 claims to be inactive. I don't see a way to remove 1.6.3, even in add/remove programs (where 1.6.4 exists).

how can remove 1.6.3 and subsequently enable 1.6.4? I looked in Tools;Addins and there is only one BIDSHelper entry. Disabling it disables 1.6.3.

it's monday, so go easy on me...

did you do an xcopy deploy previously?
https://bidshelper.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=xcopy%20deploy

I would uninstall from Add/Remove Programs, and I would also check the xcopy deploy instructions and remove the old BIDS Helper from there. Then start up BIDS and make sure BIDS Helper isn't running anymore.

no, i performed an install using the EXE for VS2005.

the directory <My Documents>/Visual Studio 2005/Addins doesn't exist. Neither does \users\<myuser>\appdata\<anything>\addins

BIDS Helper does not show in ControlPanel;UninstallPrograms.

Clearly VS2005 thinks BIDS Helper is installed, but i have no clue how

just to clarify, my ORIGINAL install was using the EXE; the upgrade was also.

Can you go to Tools... Options... Environment... Add-in/Macros Security.

Then look in all the directories listed to see if you can find BIDSHelper.AddIn.

Do you have multiple copies of BIDSHelper.AddIn in one of those directories?

When you run BIDS Helper setup, it's supposed to add the following path to that Add-in File Paths list:
C:\Program Files (x86)\BIDS Helper
(without the (x86) if you don't have a 64-bit laptop, I think)

Hopefully that will get us to the bottom of this issue. If not, let me know and we will take the next troubleshooting step to see where it's getting BIDS Helper from.

the only bidshelper.addin file is located here:

c:\Program Files (x86)\BIDSHelper2005\BIDSHelper.AddIn

this path is also in the list shown by Tools;Options;Environment;Add-in/MacrosSecurity

so... armed with that info, i closed BIDS, renamed the BIDSHelper2005 directory to BIDSHelper2005_old, installed the 1.6.4.0 version of BIDSHelper to BIDSHelper_1.6.4.0, opened BIDS, removed the path to BIDSHelper2005, verified that BIDSHelper_1.6.4.0 was indeed there, restarted BIDS, and finally verified that BIDSHelper 1.6.4.0 was indeed installed (Tools;Options;BidsHelper;Version).

whew!

thanks for all your help... next time i think i'll use the XCOPY install :)
