Bids Helper failed to load.
I notice that someone had success with this on review, is it because that person had SSAS installed?

Thanks for reporting. I can confirm we have not yet tested BIDS Helper when you don't install the full SSDT (including SSAS, SSRS and SSIS). That's on the list of todos. For now I recommend installing the SSAS portion of SSDT

Hi
I have now installed the full BI stack on SQL Server developer (64 bit) 2016 SP1 (version 13.0.4001.0)
on Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (10.0 build 14393)
Visual Studio 2015 version 14.0.25420.01 update 3

Bids Helper for SQL Server 2016 version 2.0.1.0
states that it has detected
SSDTBI 2016 (13.0.1708.8) for Visual Studio 2015

When I right click on project and choose add new biml file
It shows Error: BIML Features Not Available
BIML Features are currently unavailable while we wait for Varigence to provide an update to the BimlEngine component

This means i currently have to write my BIML files on a 2014 server and tools on another machine, then copy the dtsx packages to the machine where 2016 is installed.

Please can you let me know exactly which version of SQL Server 2016 on what version of OS and what version of SSDT you used to test.

The BIML functionality in BIDS Helper is knidly supplied and supported by Varigence. They have not provided us with an updated DLL that will work with VS2015 or SQL 2016. As such we have had to disable those features. They have not responded to our last few emails so we can't even give you an indication of when or even if this might be re-enabled.

They were also working on their own free BIML plugin called BIML Express - you might be able to try that.
