Trying to launch this and the status goes to running and I get the following message 'SQLNCLI.1' provider is not registered on the local machine.  Any ideas what is missing?

Hmm. What happens when you go to the Data Source View, right click on a fact table, and choose Explore Data? Is it able to connect successfully and pull some data?

If that fails too, then maybe you don't have the SQL2005 driver installed, but you do have the SQL2008 driver installed. In that case you need to edit the data source and change it to use the "Native OLE DB\SQL Server Native Client 10.0" Provider instead.

Your advice is spot on.  BIDS on my local machine is SQL 2008 but the data source is SQL 2005.  So I set it to Native OLE DB\Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server and it worked great.  Thank you.
