Release Notes

Preview release of BIDS Helper for SQL 2016 / Visual Studio 2015.

BIDS Helper has been converted from the deprecated add-in model to the new extension framework in Visual Studio. All functionality should remain the same with the exception of most SSAS tabular features which will not work in the 1200 compatibility mode.

Reviews for this release

This is a brilliant tool. We have been using it for a long time. We have not migrated to SQL 2016. Any idea when the beta version for BIDS Helper for SQL 2016 is coming out.

some SSAS features are not available in the context menu: for example "Dimension data type discrepancy check"

Installation problem is fixed, thanks. But Tabular Model Translation Editor needs to be revise for SQL Server 2016 Tabular Model Compatibility Level 1200. Because finally it has its own Translation Editor but BIDS Helper's Translation editor doesnt work for Tabular Model Compatibility Level 1200.

After I installed BIDS Helper for 2016 I had an issue where I noticed it wasn't working. When I checked BIDS Helper in the options it said it wasn't enabled. It listed an Analysis Services DLL it was trying to use. When I installed SSDT I only selected SSIS because I don't do any analysis services work. After installing SSDT again with analysis services and reporting services(just to be safe) bids helper is now enabled. I'm sharing this because I wasted an entire day trying to figure this out and installing SSDT again. I'm unable to create a BIML file too.

There is an error that calls: BIDS Helper - Error Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.AnalysisSetvices.BackEnd.DataModelingSandboxTabular' to type 'Microsoft.AnalysisSeNices.BackEnd.DataModelingSandboxAmo'. at BIDSHelper.TabularTranslationsEditorPlugin.ExecInternal(Boolean bPreBuildCheckOnly) in C:\codeplext\bidshelper-vsix\SSAS\Tabular\TabularTranslationsEditorPlugin.cs:line 103

I don't get it to work. There is no option to add a BIML file to the solution. If I create a BIML file manually I can't do anything with it because I get all kinds of errors.
